Service availability: The time available to use the service. This can be measured using the time window, z.B 99.5% availability between hours 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. and more or less availability at other times. E-commerce processes are generally extremely aggressive. 99.999 percent operating time is an unusual requirement for a website that generates millions of dollars per hour. Service level agreements are also defined at different levels: most service providers provide statistics, often through an online portal. There, customers can check whether ALS is being met and whether they are entitled to service credits or other penalties under ALS. However, in the case of critical services, customers should invest in third-party tools to automatically collect sLA performance data that provide objective performance measurement. Uptime is also a common metric that is often used for data services such as shared hosting, virtual private servers and dedicated servers.
General agreements include network availability percentage, operating time, number of planned maintenance windows, etc. Using a multi-level structure for a large organization reduces duplication of effort while providing accommodations for customers and services. Therefore, the SLAs apply to all departments of this organization at the corporate level. THE SLAs at the customer level apply to the department, etc. When sending a PSR, the customer must include the expected levels of service as part of the requirement. This has an impact on suppliers` offers and prices and may even influence the supplier`s decision to respond. If you need z.B. 99.999 percent availability for a system and the provider cannot meet this requirement with the indicated design, it can offer another, more robust solution. Set a good base number.
Defining the right measures is only half the fight. To be useful, measures must be set at reasonable and achievable performance levels. In the absence of solid historical measurement data, you should be prepared to review and adjust parameters later through a predefined process specified in ALS. The SLA metrics required depend on the services provided. Many elements can be monitored as part of an ALS, but the scheme should be kept as simple as possible to avoid confusion and excessive costs on both sides. When selecting metrics, check the process and decide what is most important. The more complex the monitoring scheme (and associated corrective measures) is, the less likely it is to be effective because no one will have time to properly analyze the data.
